Westmoreland Mall prepares for dealer school as Live! Casino Pittsburgh nears completion

In the former Bon-Ton space of the Westmoreland Mall, the Live! Casino Pittsburgh is currently being constructed. As the casino gets closer to fruition, table game dealers are needed. The Westmoreland County Community College is preparing to start a live dealer school at the mall on August 17, in order to prepare dealers to work at the new casino facility.

Details of the School:

When the school opens in a few days, 120 students will be enrolled. Of that number, 60 to 70 will be hired for the Live! Casino Pittsburgh. The casino is owned and will be operated by the Cordish Companies of Maryland. It is expected that once completed, the casino will have cost $150 million to construct. The property will be home to 750 slot games and 30 table games.

The dealer school is currently in the setup process. There are tables that can be converted to blackjack, poker, and other games, to teach the students how to work in various dealer positions. 7BALL Plexiglass has been added to the tables for protection from the coronavirus. A chip washer has been added as well to disinfect chips.

The students will take classes for five weeks, learning how to deal blackjack and other games. In blackjack, students will learn how to count chips, deal cards, and manage money. They will also learn how to position themselves so that they can watch the table during games.

Students will be able to follow three tracks of learning; craps, roulette, and carnival game training. Each track requires additional weeks of training.

Already Hiring:

As the new casino looks to train new dealers to fill game positions, they are also hiring in other areas. In July, the casino announced they are looking to fill over 500 employment positions. Applications are being taken for manager and supervisor positions.
